Lock Angeles is Eddie Lock from Kent in England. “I heard this amazing voice on a Goldie Fabric mix album and the track was signed to Metalheadz. I called Goldie and said do you mind if I produce a track with the vocalist Thomas Oliver that is signed to your label. He was totally cool and ‘Believe in Love’ was the creation.” The name Lock Angeles comes from Eddie’s love for Los Angeles and California.
Eddie Lock has a wealth of music industry experience including concert promotion, artist representation, song writing and record production behind him, not to mention collaborating with artists and club brands including Afrika Bambaataa, Boy George, MR C and the hugely successful Hed Kandi. Eddie Lock’s multi faceted career commands respect. As an artist and record label he has enjoyed worldwide national chart success. In 1993 his underground instrumental “Snakecharmer” by Carpe Diem sold 80,000 copies on 12” in France alone and went Gold. In 1998 he enjoyed top 30 UK success with “Got to Get Up” by Carpe Diem featuring Afrika Bambaataa. In 2001 he had a Top 10 Uk hit with Santos “Camels”, another underground instrumental that crossed over into the mainstream chart.
Now managing Goldie as an artist exclusively on a full time basis, he has found time to return to the studio to rekindle his love for making music. Music has always played a huge role in Eddie’s life. Before the age of 21 Eddie had his own record label, publishing company and national chart affiliated record outlets. As a DJ Eddie has played no less than six of the top ten clubs in the world and was resident of Ibiza’s Space, Amnesia, Es Paradis and Eden spending 15 years back and forth on the island.
Attending the International Music Summit both in Ibiza and Los Angeles in 2013 inspired me to produce the music for “Believe In Love” and Thomas Oliver delivered such a strong and passionate vocal in due course. Earlier this year it was a pleasure to bump into Paul Oakenfold in LA who said he loved the record!
Thomas Oliver is internationally recognized as one of the leading players of the Weissenborn lap steel guitar and a multi talented guitarist, song writer and singer from from New Zealand. In 2013 Oliver released the first full-length, all instrumental, all Weissenborn album, titled “Beneath The Weissenborn”. The album debuted at #6 in the NZ charts, received 5* reviews and sold out shows across the nation.
Oliver recently released ‘International You Day’, a tribute to Tony Sly from California punk band No Use For A Name, which gives us a sneak peak in to the recordings that Oliver is working on. Oliver says we can expect a deep and sonically rich impression, with organic instruments alongside loops and samples, and real and grounded lyrical messages.
With over a million views on YouTube, he has developed an international audience from his home base in New Zealand that will see him play shows in Australia and Europe in 2014.
Oliver’s ability to write stirring lyrics and move between sweet melodic and grunty vocals has also earned him a reputation as a vocalist in Drum & Bass, having collaborated with some of the most respected producers, including Black Sun Empire, Rido and Concord Dawn, and boasting releases on prestigious labels, including Goldie's own Metalheadz.
